Church Reaches Out to Teens Arrested for Vandalism
Nov 25, 2006 Uncategorized
Basically, some teenagers broke into a church and vandalized it. Instead of the church suing the, they are doing the Christ-like thing and reaching out to them. I REALLY respect that. Here is an excerpt from the article:
—
The congregation of a church vandalized by three young men has invited them to church and is gathering gift baskets for each of them “to reach out and extend love and mercy to them,” an outreach pastor said.
“The judge will give them consequences, but as a congregation we want to reach out and extend love and mercy to them,” said Jason Reimer, a pastor of outreach at the South Hills Evangelical Church. “A lot of us, whether we’re churchgoers or not, have been in their shoes before and have made some bad choices. But God forgives us.”

Again, in this situation, the church could have turned its back on these kids, but they realize that everyone makes mistakes, so they reached out to those who had messed up. I wish all churches would be like that. It really hurts when they aren’t…
It reminds me of some lyrics from “If We Are the Body” (iTunes link) by Casting Crowns:
But if we are the Body
Why aren’t His arms reaching
Why aren’t His hands healing
Why aren’t His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren’t His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way
Jesus is the Way
