Xbox 360 Dashboard Update

I updated my Xbox this afternoon with the Dashboard update. You can find the details of the update at other websites, but the one feature I actually care about was the playback support for Xvid and Divx movies.

My DVR crapped out on me last night, so the shows I normally record were, um, downloaded, so I wanted to test out the Xbox functionality. I currently do not have a way to stream the videos, so I burned them to a cd and played it off of there. It played perfectly, and looked surprisingly good considering it was being blown up to 50 inches.

If you have a 360, make sure you snag the update!

Monday Morning Poll: The HD Format Wars

Over at Cinematical, they are conducting a poll regarding the 2 different High-Definition formats for DVD. On one side, you have HD-DVD. On the other, Blu-Ray. Personally, I am in camp HD-DVD, but I do not judge. If you are a Blu-Ray person, I still have much love for you and your dumb HD format. (Kidding, of course. Maybe.)

Link.

ps- my side is losing.

My Favorite PostSecret Posts of the Week

Here are some of the PostSecret Posts from this past week that stood out to me. Make sure you head over to their site to check them out!

Before the Devil Knows Your Dead

I just got back from seeing Before the Devil Knows Your Dead, a new movie starring Ethan Hawke, Phillip Seymore Hoffmann, and Marisa Tomei. Here is IMDB’s synopsis:

When two brothers organize the robbery of their parents’ jewelery store the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that sends them, their father and one brother’s wife hurtling towards a shattering climax.

I don’t know about shattering, but the climax was pretty good. In fact, I really liked this movie. Instead of the story being told in a linear fashion, you get certain parts at certain times in no particular order. For example, one scene will take place at a certain time, then the next will take place 3 day prior, then the next would be 2 days later. But that effect makes a good story seem even better.

The acting in this movie was amazing, especially the scene where Hoffmann and Tomei are in the car and pull over for his little breakdown. Added to the story, this movie was pretty solid. Although, there was one HUGE plot hole. You will know what I mean when you see it.

I give it a B+.

Half-Time Marching Band Does Video Games

This is great. Last month, the Cal marching band’s half-time show performance payed homage to video games. Just watch and see how many games you can pick out. The very end is my favorite part. Awesome…
