This is bad (for HD-DVD)

hdmarketshare-jan2weeks.jpg

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. came out and said that they would not be supporting HD-DVD any longer. Well, as you can see, that announcement had a HUGE impact on the hi-def dvd market. These charts speak for themselves.

I sold my hd-dvd player a few months ago, and it looks like that might have been the right decision. What format do/will you use?

A Great Interview with Kevin Max

220px-kevin_max.jpgRemember dcTalk? I loved that band back in the day, and still do. Anyways, Kevin Max from dcTalk has been doing some solo stuff for a few years, and I have actually really enjoyed it. Kevin was always the outsider of dcTalk. He saw things outside the box, and his solo work really showed that.

Christianity Today has an interview with him. He touches on his divorce, re-marriage, music, family, and even dcTalk. The main point is to promote his new cd, but it is a great read.

Use a Zune with iTunes?

zune4-green.jpgI do not own a Zune, and I have been accused of bashing the Zune in the past. Well, I have to say, it actually is a great device, and if I had a pc and did not absolutely love my my iPod, I would strongly consider getting one. So this post serves as my first official “pro-Zune” post. Mark the date.

Anyway, there is a program that looks like it will let you use your Zune with other sync programs (like Windows Media Player, iTunes, etc). I have no way of trying it out, but if it does what it says it will, you would essentially be able to sync up your Zune with iTunes and have any DRM-free music copy over to it. Now that is cool.

Boost That Willpower! (wuhtishhhhhh!)

The sound of a whip cracking? Anyone?hamburger_203x152.jpg

If you are anything like me, you are weak. Not saying that you are weak for being like me, but that I am weak when it comes to certain things. If I am trying to eat healthy and I come across, say, a plate of hot wings, it is bad news. If I am trying to read a book, and almost anything else is going on in the room, the book does not get read. I’m weak.

The NY Times has an interesting piece that digs down into self-control, and what can trigger it:

Studies now show that self-control is a limited resource that may be strengthened by the foods we eat. Laughter and conjuring up powerful memories may also help boost a person’s self-control. And, some research suggests, we can improve self-control through practice, testing ourselves on small tasks in order to strengthen our willpower for bigger challenges.

Strangely, according to the article, the types of food we eat can act as a trigger for better self-control and willpower. Go ahead and check out the article. We are only a few weeks into January, so hopefully this will help us all hold onto those New Year’s resolutions!
