The 75 Skills Every Man Should Master

    May 8th, 2008

As a man, I can proudly say I have mastered some of these. Some of my favorites:

    6. Know at least one musical group as well as is possible. One guy at your table knows where Cobain was born and who his high school English teacher was. Another guy can argue the elegant extended trope of Liquid Swords with GZA himself. This is how it should be. Music does not demand agreement. Rilo Kiley. Nina Simone. Whitesnake. Fugazi. Otis Redding. Whatever. Choose. Nobody likes a know-it-all, because 1) you can’t know it all and 2) music offers distinct and private lessons. So pick one. Except Rilo Kiley. I heard they broke up.

    13. Throw a punch. Close enough, but not too close. Swing with your shoulders, not your arm. Long punches rarely land squarely. So forget the roundhouse. You don’t have a haymaker. Follow through; don’t pop and pull back. The length you give the punch should come in the form of extension after the point of contact. Just remember, the bones in your hand are small and easy to break. You’re better off striking hard with the heel of your palm. Or you could buy the guy a beer and talk it out.

4 things in your house dirtier than a toilet

    May 8th, 2008

Several weeks ago, I took a can of compressed air and sprayed my computer keyboard at work. I thought that it would get some dust out, plain and simple. Holy cow.

What came out was dust, hair, food, grime, and a small furry animal. Seriously, it was DISGUSTING how dirty it was. Obviously it was no surprise to me to see a list of things dirtier than my toilet with a computer keyboard as the first thing.

    Here is the list:

    1. Your Keyboard
    2. The Kitchen
    3. Men’s Wallet
    4. Women’s Desk

Click to see the reasoning behind each. And go clean your keyboard RIGHT NOW!

Third Day featured me on their official blog!

    May 7th, 2008

Third Day is my favorite band of all time.  They have been for around 14 years or so.  Well, I went to their blog today, and they featured a video that I had put up on Youtube of a band I used to play with covering a Third Day song.

They have been doing a feature called “Fourth Day”, where they post a video of someone covering a Third Day song.  Today featured my video!  So, go to their blog and check it out.

Video Vednesday - I Want a Broken Heart

    May 7th, 2008

In my attempt to have a catchy weekly blog post thing that has matching first letters in the title, I have decided to start what I am calling “Video Vednesday”. Say it like the count from Sesame Street: Viiiideo Veeeednesday, ah ah ah”. Okay, I have de-railed. For those of you that are miraculously still reading, here we go:

Here is my cover of Derek Webb’s “I Want a Broken Heart”. By the way, if you watch Grey’s Anatomy, you heard one of Derek’s songs a few episodes ago. Anyways, enjoy!

Tuesday Tunes: “Children 18:3″- self titled

    May 6th, 2008

Hear me out on this one please. This new band is actually really good, dispite how scary that dude in the middle looks. These guys and gal have a sound very similar to Rancid, Roots Radicals era. It’s punk rock, but not the pop-punk that seems to be popular. Heck, the song”Even Sleeping” has a bit of ska in it. These folks are the real deal. And if that wasn’t enough, the 14 song cd on Amazon MP3 is only $7.99.

    From CCM Magazine:

With super-energetic performances that make the songs actually fun to listen to, and influences from east coast to west coast, old school to new wave (I can even forgive the one song that borderlines on ska), they rock. The melodies are catchy and the vocals are bold, with great interplay between the male and female voices, as the singing duties are shared by David and Lee Marie. Standout songs include “LCM,” “Homemade Valentine” and “Ditches.” But really, if you like punk, this is an album not to be missed.

TwitterSnooze! - Snooze Chatty Twitter Friends

    May 5th, 2008

Have you ever opened up your Twitter only to see that someone has posted 20 things in the last 5 minutes? It’s really annoying! Well, now you can choose to “snooze” someone if they do that. With TwitterSnooze!, you can sort of “block” someone temporarily from having their Tweetsa show up in your Twitter feed.

Say for example, I was at a conference and I was Twittering every update. If you could care less about that, you could snooze me for “X” amount of days. After that time had passed, my tweets would resume showing up in your Twitter feed.

The only thing is that once the snooze time expires, I think the person you snoozed gets an email saying that you are following them again. But other than that, it looks pretty cool.

Energy Drink Review: Camping out edition - “Crunk!!!”

    May 5th, 2008

While camping this weekend, I stopped by the local gas station and picked up an energy drink (sleeping in your car has a tendency to prohibit you from the amount of sleep you need). Anyways, here was the selection I was presented with:

You might notice a familiar drink in there. Anyways, I decided to go with a drink called “Crunk!!!”. That’s right, the name has 3 exclamation marks in it. As far as the taste goes, this is hands down the best tasting drink of all that I have tried. It didn’t taste like an energy drink trying to taste good. It had a very unique flavor that was delicious. As far as the energy boost goes, it was on par with the others.

So, I am happy to name Crunk!!! my favorite so far. Now, go and get Crunked up. Yeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh!
