Jim Carey reminds us about how cheap gas used to be

Ever seen the movie “Me, Myself, and Irene”?  It is a HILARIOUS movie that I watched over the weekend.  Anyways, while watching it, I noticed something in the background of one scene:

Ahhh, those were the days… $1.13 for the cheap stuff.  The cheapest gas near me right now is $3.98/gallon, so seeing this made me smile, yet at the same time, sad at how much it has risen in the 8 years since this movies release.

Remember those days?

I remember high school (late 90′s) when gas was under $1 for a while. Still, I remind people that with inflation, gas could be MUCH more expensive than it is now. And decades ago when it was just a few dollars cheaper, car were much less fuel efficient too. We’ve taken gas for granted for a long time now.

I totally agree, it could be worse. Parts of Europe pay around $8 a gallon. That being said, a 275% increase is a pretty big one!

I remember when I got my license it was 88 cents. HA! If only that were still true.

Hmmm, was that around ’96 or so? That’s how much it cost when I got my license too!

That was about the end of Jim Carey being funny! We watched one of the “Pet Detective” this weekend…the second one. It wasn’t good.

“That was about the end of Jim Carey being funny!”

Was he ever funny? I didn’t even think he was funny as Fireman Bill….but that’s me and not what the blog post is about.

Gas prices: your right Adam; those were the days. I remember in the seventies when they had the fuel shortage thing and we would wait in long lines for gas. Gas was dirt cheap compared to now. If my mother still owned that huge, hulking Thunderbird nowadays, she would have to take out a small home-equity loan just to fill it up. :)

I am a Jim Carey fan, and I think that when it comes to Physical humor, he is the best. Just look at the scene in Me, Myself, and Irene where he is practically beating himself up. It’s amazing!

But yeah, I remember gas shortages a few years back. Scary stuff!

Sorry about the Jim Carey comment. :) Didn’t mean to upset the delicate balance of the blog-o-sphere. I promise to behave myself from now on…

Hubby likes Carey, but then again he likes the Three Stooges too. What’s a poor girl to do?

you are forgiven. But hey, the 3 Stooges are CLASSIC!

Don’t mean to hop in on the Carey thing, but I guess I started it. The fireman thing was funny for the first three or four times we saw it, but it did get old.

Scottie: the 70′s? Is that when then they let a peanut farmer be President.

@MTAE – Fire Marshall Bill was hilarious! But you’re right, only the first several times. Then it got a little old.

@Dong Ho – I think my next car will be battery powered, so maybe that will help

when I started driving, gas was 77 cents…crazy. My boss at work just bought a honda fit….he figured out he could park is v8 dodge, buy the fit, make the car payments, pay the insurance on it, put gas in it and still have $100 left over! I think we will all be driving Hydrogen Fuel cell vehicles in the future.

Very well written post however, I would recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section.

    Keep up the good work.
