I’m THAT guy

Ever seen an email with these kind of subjects come across the email?:

Fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd: OBAMA IS REALLY A MUSLIM OMG!!!11!!

Fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:THIS VIRUS WILL WIPE OUT YOUR PC!

Fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:DON’T BUY GAS ON APRIL 1ST!!!one1!

These emails go onto say a bunch of stuff that is usually pretty far out there.  At the end, you are normally told to send the email to 15 people so a miracle will happen to you in the next 24 hours.  Ever seen an email like that?  I HATE THOSE!

Well, as soon as I get one of those, I immediately head over to www.snopes.com to find out if it is true or completely false.  Normally, they are false.  After copying the link, I then immediately send it back to whoever sent that dumb email to me.  I’m that guy.  And I get so much satisfaction from it!

So, are you a sender, deleter, or a teach-the-sender-a-lesson-er like me?

    I’m a teach-the-sender-a-lesson-er.

Not only do I reply to the sender - I reply to all. So everyone knows its FAKE. I love Snopes. Wonder if it’s ever been wrong.

If I get two or three from someone…that person gets stuck in on my SPAM list.

I am only accepting emails about getting rich quickly and how my “life” will be changed by taking little blue pills.

@mindy - NICE! Not only do you let ‘em have it, you let everyone know it! That’s awesome!

@MTAE - what about sending money via western union to someone in Nigeria? Those are the only ones I accept.

I’m the guy who is a big fan of typing-skill mockery. Therefore I’m a fan of anyone who will type out the word “one” when mixing “!” and “1″s. You sir, are teh awesomxorz!

Oh noes!!1uno!! I’m also a fan of any kind of mockery here on the interwebs.

I’m a deleter. I usually delete any forward I get not just those annoying ones about candidates. If they don’t get the hint (and we’re friends) I just flat out tell them to stop sending me forwards. Period. If I don’t know the person sending them they are put in junk/spam. But maybe I should start sending them back.

Did you know that the Apple Mail program has a feature that will send a “bounce back” email to someone so they will think your address is not valid? You know, one of those “invalid recipient” ones. Normally, the sender will then take you off your list. Pretty cool!

im one of the few who dont actually use email as email. Most of my email accounts I have are dedicated to automation. Basically an email will be sent to me notifying me of an event, and I can reply to that event anywhere to get an outcome. For personal communication I prefure txt or instant messages.

LOL! I’m the Snopes person. I sometimes wonder if people hate me for that. :-P

@kraze - texting really is a more efficient way to communicate. Voicemail is the worst, email is closely behind it. But next to an actual conversation, I think a text is the way to go too.

@Dube - Eh, they might hate you, but who cares!

  13. scottie Says:

I love it!!! I’ll have to remember the bounce back thing…

My hubby is a big snoops fan.

Bounce back? Now I kind of wish I had a Mac. I have many good uses for that feature!

@Scottie - Snopes is the best!

@Dube - It’s such a brilliant “little” feature that is so useful.

  16. KrAzE Says:

Bouncing email does very little. If you own the domain to your mailbox, go ahead and check with your host. They usually have a huge set of options for eliminating spam.

I use 1and1 and its default low level spam protection works very well. I also add in keywords every so often and I recieve around 90 spam messages a week, but about 96% of them never see my inbox.

If you would like other assistance, hit me up via email and I would be glad to help.

  17. Adam Says:

@Kraze - honestly, I use Gmail, and I would say most of the spam is caught before it reaches my inbox. I will check out 1and1 though. THanks!
