A poor man’s sleep study = interesting/creepy
Hey, wanna see something kind of creepy? I have been interested recently in the quality of the sleep I get every night. Do I toss and turn? Do I wake up a lot and just not remember it? Well, I did my own little sleep study.
Using a video camera connected to my laptop, and some FREE software that creates a time lapse video, I have managed to condense 8 hours of sleep into about 2 minutes or so of video. The software I used does it all automatically for you.
I think the interesting parts of it all are my eyes moving around while they are closed, and all of the tossing and turning. Apparently that is a normal part of the REM sleep cycle, but it is still weird to see yourself doing it.
The time stamp on the video is not set for the correct time zone, just so you know.
WARNING: I am not wearing a shirt, so ladies beware.
If you want to make one, the software I used is called Gawker. Go make your own!

I was waiting for you to pick your nose or something.
My wife says I sit up in the middle of the night and check the clock every hour or hour and a half.
Did you feel rested like normal?

Wow, so you open your eyes and everything that often during the night? I normally feel just fine throughout the day, but I am really just interested in any weird things I might do that I just don’t remember.

That’s kind of a cool idea. I might have to try it sometime. I sometimes talk in my sleep, and I sometimes jump out of bed from having nightmares, so it could make for an entertaining experiment!

No kidding! Maybe you could set up a tape recorder or something to capture what you say. Who knows, maybe it’s valuable insight!

I’m like MTAE and look at the clock during the night, except I remember doing it. I also sometimes wake up (sort of) when I want to roll over. Not enough to keep me awake but enough that I remember doing it. I don’t think I snore, talk, sleep walk, grind my teeth, or whatever else people do but it might be fun to find out for sure.

Home sleep study eh? Sounds like the way to go since they cost thousands in a clinic.
