An easy, low cost way to get rid of dandruff

aspirin

It’s getting close to winter time, and for some folks that means having a flaky scalp and a small-to-nonexistent collection of dark shirts.  There are plenty of shampoos out there that can help get rid of dandruff, but Lifehacker recently pointed out one method that is low-cost, and although a bit odd, probably will not require you to go out and buy anything.

What you need:

  • 3 tablets of Aspirin
  • something to finely crush it with
  • A spray bottle
  • warm water

You can probably figure this out on your own, but what you do is take the aspirin and very finely crush it up.  Then, you dissolve it on a spray bottle full of hot water.  Before you shampoo in the shower, spray your scalp evenly with it.  Then shampoo like you normally would.

Seems easy enough, right?  So do YOU struggle with dandruff in the cold months?

Any secrets?

  • Head & Shoulders Intensive Care. It's not THAT expensive and it works great. I use the stuff daily and I haven't had dandruff in over a decade (expect for the month I tried a generic version).
  • I have tried that stuff, and you're right, it works great. Every time I try another brand, I always end up coming back to them.
  • That aspirin trick sounds pretty cool though. I always mean to do these neat "make it yourself things", but I'm so lazy. I once made my own wrinkle-releaser from a spray bottle and some diluted fabric softener, and it worked just as well as the Downy Wrinkle Release. But now I'm too lazy to make a new bottle, and my wife won't let me buy the pre-made stuff because I COULD make a bottle. Ahhh!
