The Smoke Monster is my new favorite LOST character

    April 25th, 2008

ong story short, a bunch of bad guys were about to come and kill some good guys.  Ben somehow got the Smoke Monster to come and save the day.  Point a gun at it?

    Bad idea.

SPOILER(ish): Last night’s episode knocked my socks off, and here’s why.

Ben travels through time and space somehow (I think)

The Doc from the freighter is both on the freighter and dead on the beach at the same time

ol’ Smokey can be used as a weapon for good.

What did you think of last night’s episode?

David Cook better win American Idol

    April 23rd, 2008

If you are one of the 20+ MILLION people that watch American Idol every week, then you know who I am talking about.  This dude has more talent than any contestant in American Idol history.  Not that I have watched every American Idol, because I haven’t by a long shot.  But he is certainly better than anyone who has ever won the competition (in my opinion, of course).

He’s got a pretty good voice, but he takes control on stage, as if he is already a rock star.  It’s important as a musician to look like you know what you’re doing on stage, and he certainly does.  Plus, his arrangements of all of the songs he has sung so far have been brilliant.

    Word.

The Shield - one of my new favorite shows

    April 17th, 2008

Over the last few weeks I have been watching a tv show called The Shield. In case you have never heard of it, The Shield is a tv show drama that follows a police strike team in very rough part of LA. From the very first episode of the series, you are introduced to police corruption that even at the start of season 6 is not resolved. Also, you will see some A-List movie stars playing roles in this show (Glenn Close, Forest Whitaker)

What makes this tv show addictive is that it portrays a very real look at how things go down in urban LA. Being that the show is on FX, almost no theme or word is left untouched. I find myself wondering why I am cheering for people who I know are the bad guys, but with good intentions.

If you get a chance, check out this show. I am blown away every episode at how I connect with these people who all have their own demons they wrestle with, and how they are on a quest to make the world a little bit better, even if it as their own expense.

Attention LOST Fans: We get a 3-hour Finale!

    April 12th, 2008

    Yes, it’s true:

“Word is there are so many big reveals the producers wanted to deliver this season that they felt anything less than a full three-hour finale would have cheated the fans. In fact, I’m hearing that the writers’ draft for the second half of the finale was 80 pages long, which led all parties involved to realize these stories had to be told now. Anything else would have felt like a rip-off for the fans”

Whenever I can get more LOST, I am game.  It’s nice to see that the fans are going to get the absolute best finale we can get.  Less than 2 weeks until it comes back!

    Apple TV Take 2: a mini-review

    March 18th, 2008

specs_dimensions20080114.jpgI have been using the AppleTV now for a few weeks, and I have to say that it has really changed the way I watch movies/podcasts. For those of you that don’t know, the Apple TV is a device that hooks up to your TV and streams any music, movies, tv shows, and podcasts that you have in iTunes. You can also copy the various media types to the Apple TV so it will work without the computer on, but streaming seems to work fine, even with HD content.

I have a couple of hundred DVD’s that I have copied to my computer and imported into iTunes, and now I can watch them all without having to use the physical DVD disc. Instead, I select it from a list of all of my movies on the beautiful Apple TV interface, and it automatically starts playing, either streamed or directly from the Apple TV hard drive.

Also, iTunes now has movie rentals. I have rented a few, and they look great, especially the HD movies. It is a buck more, but you get 720p video downloaded straight from iTunes to the Apple TV, no computer needed.

Finally, video podcasts are watchable on the Apple TV. I have subscribed to the HD versions of several of them since I can watch them on the tv now. Diggnation has never looked so great.

So check it out: Apple TV

    Are You a Pirate?

    March 13th, 2008

744px-pirate_flag_of_rack_rackhamsvg.pngAnd by pirate, I mean downloading tv shows, movies, and other things off of the internet illegally.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, paying for it is definitely the right thing to do. In the case of an up-and-coming artist, you are literally taking money out of their pockets if you don’t buy their music. Also, with the availability of DRM-free music at a great price, there is really no need to download music illegally anymore. But recently, a scenario presented itself where I justifies downloading a tv show off of a torrent site.

Some friends of mine wanted to watch the Academy wards a few weeks ago, but because they work pretty late sometimes, they could not watch it. Since they don’t have a Tivo, they were out of luck. They asked me to record it and then burn it to dvd for them. Well, after 3 days of trying to get it from my DVR to a DVD, I decided that the only other option was to download it off of the internet, then burn it to dvd for them.

In a situation like that, I really had no other choice. There was not a re-broadcast of the Oscars, so pirating it was the only option.

Was I justified in this scenario?

    I got a new TV

    March 6th, 2008

Well, a used one.  But it’s new to me!

I went on Craig’s List and found a nice 30″ HDTV for $200, which is a pretty good deal if you ask me.  So, problem averted!

I just finished LOST and I am crying

    February 28th, 2008

**if you haven’t watched tonight’s episode, DO NOT READ**

That was one of the best episodes of LOST I think I have ever seen.  It answered a lot of questions, and REALLY tugged on the heart strings.  In fact, I was crying during the phonecall between Penny and Desmond.  It feels like something I have been waiting for for so long has finally happened (Desmond making contact with Penny), and we now know why Penny was looking for the island at the end of season 2.  That might be my favorite overall episode yet!

I would give a full synopsis, but I am really tired.  Tomorrow I will post a link to the best synopsis in town.

    I love this show!

So, Kate has Aaron… What about Claire?? (LOST Question of the Day)

    February 21st, 2008

**Do not read until after you have watched the most recent episode of LOST (4.04)**

For those of you that just got done watching LOST, what is your theory of the very end of the episode?  Kate never had a baby, instead, she is Aaron’s mom now.  But what about Claire?  Is she going to get the axe?

Also, do you think Aaron counts as one of the Oceanic Six?  He wasn’t born until AFTER the crash…

    What an episode!
