Acoustic Guitars for Beginners

If anyone out there is looking to start playing guitar, here is a great list of 10 guitars that are good for beginners. I get asked a lot about what kind of guitar one should get when starting out. There is really no need to get a super fancy expensive guitar. Remember, you are learning. When you get good, that’s the time to get a nicer one.

The nice thing about this list is that it includes some 2/3 size guitars. Those are a bit smaller than a regular acoustic and great for children.

Here’s the list.

Tuesday Tunes: Derek Webb and Sandra McCracken - “Ampersand EP”

I had the pleasure of meeting Derek Webb (of Caedmon’s Call) and Sandra McCracken a few years back, and they are very interesting, thought-provoking people. Each have recorded several cd’s in the past, but now for the first time, Derek and Sandra are teaming up for this EP.

The cd is an acoustic, mellow journey of songs dealing with faith, love, life, marriage, and everything in between. Lyrically, it is top notch. Musically, it is so raw and basic, but I love that. Sandra especially reminds me of some of Sheryl Crow’s older acoustic music.

Check this one out, and then go check out some of Derek and Sandra’s solo cd’s (not to mention all of the Caedmon’s Call cd’s Derek is a part of).

Video Vednesday - I Want a Broken Heart

In my attempt to have a catchy weekly blog post thing that has matching first letters in the title, I have decided to start what I am calling “Video Vednesday”. Say it like the count from Sesame Street: Viiiideo Veeeednesday, ah ah ah”. Okay, I have de-railed. For those of you that are miraculously still reading, here we go:

Here is my cover of Derek Webb’s “I Want a Broken Heart”. By the way, if you watch Grey’s Anatomy, you heard one of Derek’s songs a few episodes ago. Anyways, enjoy!

Tuesday Tunes: Moneen - “Saying Something You Have Already Said”

imagephp.jpgI would classify Moneen as an emo band.  Lots of emotion in the lyrics, and that sometimes can lead to some screaming and what sounds at times like wailing, if that makes sense.  Listen to some of their older stuff, you will hear what I am talking about.  Well, this latest release, Saying Something You Have Already Said, is different.  First of all, it is an EP, so there are only 5 songs on it.  Most of the songs are acoustic, and surprisingly refreshing.  There are some great arrangements musically, and vocally, the wailing and screaming is gone.  What you are left with is the same emotion delivered a little more gently.  Definitely worth the $4.95 on iTunes.  Give it a try!
