Microsoft Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Officially Discontinued
Feb 25, 2008 Technology, Video Games
It was only a matter of time before Microsoft officially discontinued manufacturing the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on, but it took them a few days longer than we expected. Their statement is finally out, and it signals Microsoft’s official withdraw from HD DVD on the console front.
I sold my Xbox 360 HD drive several months back, and I’m glad I did. It played HD movies, but it was a crappy player (at least mine was). So this is good. As much as it pains me to say, I hope Microsoft can adopt Blu-Ray and make a good, cheap player for the 360. I might have to pick one up then…

It’s official: HD DVD is dead, the format war is finally over
Feb 19, 2008 Technology
Toshiba just made a statements saying, “It will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders.” As an early adopter of HD-DVD with my Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive and a dozen movies (all of which I have since sold), I was really rooting for HD-DVD. Not that it was better than Blu-Ray in any way. Come on, folks, it was basically the same quality. I guess it was more of an anti-Sony thing. Anyways, I guess that it is all over for HD-DVD now, so I will have to submit to Sony’s standard.
O well, it sure was fun, HD-DVD. I will cherish our memories forever.
This is bad (for HD-DVD)

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. came out and said that they would not be supporting HD-DVD any longer. Well, as you can see, that announcement had a HUGE impact on the hi-def dvd market. These charts speak for themselves.
I sold my hd-dvd player a few months ago, and it looks like that might have been the right decision. What format do/will you use?
