This picture is an example of how boring it has been at work this week. Not much of a blog entry here, but I am sure that will change as the week goes on.

I saw a website once where people took pictures like this of places they had been, with the place in the iPod reflection. That is a cool idea, maybe I will do more of that later.

Saturday was our yearly trip to LaGrange, GA. We spent the last few weeks collecting gifts for underprivileged teenage boys, and this was the day we delivered them to the kids. We cooked them a HUGE dinner, then let them open presents.

Before that, though, we walked around the LaGrange College Campus (where I went to school), ate at Charlie Joseph’s, and hung out witht he kids by playing football and basketball. It was a blast!

In this picture, we are eating at one of the oldest diners in town, called Charlie Joseph’s. Traditionally, this meal is an eating contest between me and some friends. This year, we all just ate a lot, and no one really kept count.

Tonight, I got together with Coats, Amy, Jeff, and Jennifer to have dinner and to wrap the presents we are delivering to the kids tomorrow. If you look at last Sunday’s photoblog picture (12-10-2006), there is a description of what I am talking about). So we ate spaghetti, then decided that as guys, we simply cannot wrap. I am TERRIBLE at wrapping presents, and apparently, so are Coats and Jeff. So, we decided to let the girls wrap, and we would go play video games. I know it doesn’t sound fair, but we respect these kids enough to spare them from having to see anything wrapped by any of us.

So, this picture is Jennifer and Amy sorting out everything and starting to wrap. Tomorrow is the delivery!

**I realize that the date says December 15 on the phone. I took the picture today even though it has to do with yesterday. Deal with it.**

At work, I am in a queue. What that means is that calls come in to the center, and they are distributed evenly to everyone on the team based on if that person is available (not on the phone). So, every call that comes my way is completely random.

Thursday, I was sitting at my desk, and a queue call came in. I answered the phone and spoke with a lady in Jacksonville. We talked for about 15 minutes about what she needed, and what we can offer, and we were winding down the call when she revealed that her last name is Riggins. I said “Excuse me? Mine is too!” We both kind of freaked out when we learned that we have family from the same small town in South Georgia. It turns out that she and I are related, probably 4th or 5th cousins. We ended up having a great conversation about our families. I know it is a stretch, but still. Small world!

Every Wednesday night, a bunch of us go to Taco Mac to play their team trivia. It is almost a tradition, and we are actually pretty hardcore. We even joined the league. Is that bad?

Last night, we were in 1st place out of about 16 teams going into the half-time bonus question. By the end of the game, we had dropped to 5th or so, so no moo-lah for us.

Last night, some group decided to have a private party which took up half of the restaurant, so that made the entire place PACKED, to the point where they ran out of chairs. We all squeezed into a booth (rather uncomfortably), but all was good. I mean, with Taco Mac queso, how can one complain about anything?

Despite the non-placement and the huge crowd, we still had a blast!

Every year, my friends coordinate and take part in a program called Faith, Hope, and Love. My friend Coats used to work and an abused-teens center in LaGrange. At this center there are about 7 teenage boys whose parents have basically abandoned them, and so they live at this home. This also means that at Christmas time, there is no one to get them any presents. Well, that is where we come in.

We have the kids make a “Christmas Wish List”, with about $250 worth of things they really want on there. Then, we find people to sponsor them by either just donating money, or actually going out to buy the gifts.

Once that is all done, we set a date to drive down to LaGrange and physically deliver the presents and cook a massive feast for the kids. That is such an awesome thing because we get to have dinner with them, and then actually see their expressions when they open the presents. They are so grateful, even for the smallest things, and it does a great job of putting things in perspective for me.

So, that being said, my Sunday School class sponsored one of the kids. So today (actually, yesterday from when I am typing this), we went shopping for the kid. In the picture, we are at Old Navy getting some polo shirts that were on his list. We also scoured the Gwinnett area looking for Nike Air Force One shoes. We found them, and then scratched out heads at how these shoes could be $80, but whatever. They are not for us.

Merry Christmas!

Riggins & Audra, originally uploaded by adamriggins.

Saturday night, we had a company Christmas party at the house of one of the employees. As you can see from the picture, my friend Audra came with me (I mean, who wants to go alone to a party, right?). Anyways, Jerry, who was the host, gave us the tour of his house. His wife had spent a month and a half decorating the house, and you could seriously tell by how beautiful it was.

A quick note about Jerry- he is an amazing guy. He sent an email out to the entire company a few months back listing the remaining holidays for 2006. Next to December 25, he did not put Christmas. Instead, he put “Christ’s birthday”. That is so awesome! Anyways, back to the party…

The food was amazing. Jerry’s wife is Italian, and she loves to cook. Well, she seriously went all out. She prepared enough food for 50 people, and it was all fresh and hand-made. I had mostly sweets (I could not resist), to the point where I felt a little sick.

It was a great night with great company, and it really got me in the Christmas mood.
