Aug 10, 2008 Health, me, ragamuffintop challenge

The big news this week is that I ran a 5k yesterday! It was my first one ever, and I finished with a time of 37:27. I know that that is pretty slow, but for me, it’s great. So lets see how the rest of the week will treat me:
- Starting weight: 289.0
- Last’s week’s weight: 268.8
- Today’s weigh-in weight: 266.0
- Today’s weight loss/gain: -2.8 pounds
- TOTAL +/-: -23 pounds

Tips on weighing yourself when trying to lose weight
Jul 7, 2008 Health, Thoughts, Uncategorized

“But Adam, don’t I just step on a scale and see the number”? Well, yeah, but there is a little more to it than that. Different factors can impact the number you see, so make sure you take all of this into consideration if you are monitoring your weight-loss. I guess the big takeaway here is to make sure all of the variables are, um, constant.
Buy a digital scale
I use one made by a company called Tanita. When placed on a solid, flat surface, you will get the most accurate results to the tenth of a pound. Plus, a lot of them measure body fat percentages (which can be good or bad).
Wear the same clothes every time
If one week you wear only your undies, but then the next week you are fully dressed, that can skew the end result. I have a specific outfit I wear every week to weigh myself in.
Weigh yourself at the same time every time
I always weigh myself in the morning after I wake up and use the restroom (see the next item). If you weigh yourself before a day of eating, and then weight yourself the next day at night after you have been eating all day, you won’t get accurate results. In fact, it will probably be a little disappointing!
Use the restroom before you weigh yourself
You want to be as empty as you can possibly be before stepping on that scale!
This is pretty standard porotocol for tracking your weightloss, but still, some might not know these little secrets. Doing this will give you the most accurate look at how you are doing in reaching your goals!
