Microsoft Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Officially Discontinued
Feb 25, 2008 Technology, Video Games
It was only a matter of time before Microsoft officially discontinued manufacturing the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on, but it took them a few days longer than we expected. Their statement is finally out, and it signals Microsoft’s official withdraw from HD DVD on the console front.
I sold my Xbox 360 HD drive several months back, and I’m glad I did. It played HD movies, but it was a crappy player (at least mine was). So this is good. As much as it pains me to say, I hope Microsoft can adopt Blu-Ray and make a good, cheap player for the 360. I might have to pick one up then…

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update
Dec 5, 2007 Technology

I updated my Xbox this afternoon with the Dashboard update. You can find the details of the update at other websites, but the one feature I actually care about was the playback support for Xvid and Divx movies.
My DVR crapped out on me last night, so the shows I normally record were, um, downloaded, so I wanted to test out the Xbox functionality. I currently do not have a way to stream the videos, so I burned them to a cd and played it off of there. It played perfectly, and looked surprisingly good considering it was being blown up to 50 inches.
If you have a 360, make sure you snag the update!
Gears of War brings home the bacon
Jan 2, 2007 Uncategorized
I got Gears of War sometime last month, and I have to say that it is an amazing game. It was hard to put the controller down after starting to play it, and when not playing it, all I wanted to do was play it. Once I finished the game, I started over, and that is where I am now. That is also why I am not surprised by this article. From it:
Gears of War has sold more than 1 million copies in the USA and an estimated 2 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling game for Microsoft’s year-old Xbox 360 video game system. Well reviewed by critics, the game is reaping year-end awards. GameSpot named Gears of War the game of the year, along with best shooter game, best multiplayer game and best graphics (technical).
“Gears of War is certainly one of the best games of the year,” says Geoff Keighley, video game journalist and host of Spike TV’s Game Head. “It’s beautiful, engrossing and features very polished gameplay. It’s the kind of game you want to show off to the friends. I dare say it’s one of the first true next-generation games on the market.”
