Use a Zune with iTunes?

zune4-green.jpgI do not own a Zune, and I have been accused of bashing the Zune in the past. Well, I have to say, it actually is a great device, and if I had a pc and did not absolutely love my my iPod, I would strongly consider getting one. So this post serves as my first official “pro-Zune” post. Mark the date.

Anyway, there is a program that looks like it will let you use your Zune with other sync programs (like Windows Media Player, iTunes, etc). I have no way of trying it out, but if it does what it says it will, you would essentially be able to sync up your Zune with iTunes and have any DRM-free music copy over to it. Now that is cool.

Leo Laporte really does not like the Zune

Leo Laporte, host of TWiT, and many other podcasts, shares his thought on the Microsoft Zune. I agree with him. He at some points sound like a crotchety old geezer, but that is his style, and I love it.

Avoid the Zune

In addition to being an Xbox 360 “fanboy”, as previously posted, I am also a fan of the iPod. I have gone through 4 of them, so it is only natural for me to want to read an article that starts off with this:

“Yes, Microsoft’s new Zune digital music player is just plain dreadful. I’ve spent a week setting this thing up and using it, and the overall experience is about as pleasant as having an airbag deploy in your face.”

iPod vs. Zune on CNN

Here is a video of some CNN news anchors talking about the new Microsoft Zune that came out Tuesday. I love how they all like the iPod Shuffle more than the Zune. Good job CNN!

Trying Out the Zune: IPod It’s Not

This is an interesting article on the new “Microsoft Zone” mp3 player coming out next week. He points out the differences between it and the iPod, including wireless capability, video and photo viewing, ease of use, and several other factors. He makes a great point, as summarized below:

Competition is good and all. But what, exactly, is the point of the Zune? It seems like an awful lot of duplication — in a bigger, heavier form with fewer features — just to indulge Microsoft’s “we want some o’ that” envy. Wireless sharing is the one big new idea — and if the public seems to respond, Apple could always add that to the iPod.
